Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity

Creativity expert Sir Ken Robinson talks about education and creativity.

The title of the video which is ” Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity”, caught my attention when I was looking for an interesting video to watch.

Even though I don’t know who he is, and what he does, whether whatever he says is true or not, but somehow I agreed on what he said in the video.

Basically in this video he talks about how we educate the children today and where it goes wrong relating to creativity.

I have highlighted some important sentences coming from him in his speech which I wish to share with you people because I just think that it was well said. Some of the sentences are…

1) If you are not prepared to be wrong, you will never come up with anything original

2) We are educating people out of their creativity

3) Some people just have to move to think!

eg. dance,etc

4) Intelligence:

-we think it diverse.

-intelligence is dynamic

-its distinct

5) celebrate human imagination by seeing our creative capacities for the richness they are, and seeing our children for hope that they are.

Simply put what he is trying to say here is that kid will take a chance, kids are not afraid to be wrong. But by the time they get to be adults, they are frightened of being wrong. And education to focus too much on the brain but unfortunately they focus only on one side of the brain. And why is that so? Take dance for example, we practice math everyday but why didn’t we practice dance everyday? Both are equally important but why?

Here’s another scenario that he’d mention in the video:

A little girl was drawing something and the teacher was fascinated and started asking,

Teacher: What are you drawing

Girl: I’m drawing a picture of god

Teacher: But nobody knows what god looks like

So you can see here how education has kill the creativity in each and everyone of us. Today, everyone is afraid of making mistake but to come up with something very awesome we have to make mistake in order to learn and move from there.
